Day 12: The Mercy of God: Our Sins are a Drop in the Ocean of His Mercy.
A life without Him soon becomes a life without direction and purpose. His Sacrament of Reconciliation is a sacrament of great mercy, where our relationship with Him is restored. We must never allow pride to distance us from that beautiful source of mercy.
Jesus said to His apostles in the Gospel of John 20:23, “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” Pay special attention to the last part, Jesus did not give permission to just any average person to retain sins. He was specifically speaking to His apostles. You see through apostolic succession this authority to forgive or retain sins has been entrusted to the priest. Every priest can be traced back to an apostle, this is what apostolic succession means. It is an extraordinary gift to humanity.
Today’s Virtue:
Trusting in God’s Mercy for it is a great gift He gives us.
Trust Jesus’s words to St Faustina where He teaches that “ our sins are but a drop in the ocean of His Mercy.”
Micah 7:19 : “He will again have compassion upon us, he will tread our iniquities under foot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.”
